Hi, guys. Last night was pretty badass, wasn’t it? And yes, I am talking about the anime, not Gene’s loss in Company of Heroes. I told myself I wouldn’t mention the post-anime activities this time because, at that point, it really is just like some big circlejerk or something (which is something we’re trying to make sure this blog is not). So this post will only be about anime. Here is a picture to prove it.

I dunno, it's hard to get cheaper than 'free'. I mean, what? Drugs?

That said, we should probably get on to the anime. Last night we watched 5 and 6 or Ore Imo, and then Giant Robots: Moar Lazahs Gundam 00: Aliens In Mah GunDAMNs Awakening of the Trailblazer.

…Oh, yeah, the name of the post. Well, misunderstanding not only because “aliens try to understand humanity by assimilating them, and humans don’t really appreciate it” but also because of the, you know… prejudices and misconceptions associated with otakus as shown in OreImo. For instance, Ayase trying to hate Kirino because she likes anime, games, and porn–all of which apparently turn us into killers and stuff.

Awesome. Anyways, moving on!

Yo, guys. Last night we watched more OreImo and then watched the Gundam 00 Trigun movie. Afterward a handful of us stayed to watch Gene get curb-stomped trade wins on Starcraft II. With that, we totally forgot about anime and the existence of Japan and became the Starcraft club. As a club revolving around the world’s greatest e-sport, we of course love Huk and, that being as it is, let us worship our new lord and master and his secret handshake:

Gene sent me this .gif so I feel like I need to put it in here.

Indeed, it was a glorious night, the spectators watching in thrall as Gene–who was still recovering from his loss in the first game–in the second game employed a bronze-league-confirmed reaper rush before turning to banshees to finish off the offender. Everyone rejoiced at our fearless leader’s victory.

Before that, though, we watched anime. As we are the Anime Club, most of you probably remember that, so let’s get to it.

Hey, everyone. I figured I should take a break from trying to stump Akinator and come do this. I was able to sit in on the entire showing this week, so it looks like I get to do the weekly post again. Huzzah! How exciting.

So excited I put my guns on.

Last night was a pretty good one. I finally got to see Ore Imo, something I’ve put off because of its being featured, and then I got to see more Eden of the East, which is just great anyway. I sort of feel sorry for anyone who hadn’t seen the series or first movie, though…

Anyway, onto the post!

Hi, guys! Are the strike-outs getting old yet? No? Alright, awesome.

Lol, anime.

At last night’s showing we watched Psychic Detective Yakumo, Katanagatari, and Bakuman, all three of which made for a night which I have heard other people dubbing ‘Boring Anime Night’. While part of me tentatively agrees, I also think that it wasn’t such a bad night. Here are my thoughts; you know where to put your questions and concerns.

Phew! What a way to kick off the semester! Quite a wild ride, right guys? I mean, spectating Amnesia really had me jumping out of my seat…

Jumping, I tell you.

Wait. We showed anime, too? I don’t believe you.

Alright, I kid, I kid. It definitely wasn’t that bad, and I wouldn’t go so far as to say any of these shows were awful in the slightest, though none of them exactly leaped out at me, either. I seem to keep hearing from a couple of people that they’re looking forward to my rage reviews for the semester. I’m really hoping the forecasts for this season’s shows aren’t totally true, but I guess the showings will tell.

Also, I’m not that picky of a viewer. I mean, Amagami-SS was one of my favorite shows from last year, and I can honestly say I enjoyed every arc. So I’m not too demanding, right? So on with the first impressions.

To remind everyone, the three shows we watched were Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, The World God Only Knows, and Kuragehime.

I probably shouldn’t even post this, since I don’t do well at keeping up with new anime. As it turns out, the number of anime I have seen from this year pretty much adds up to exactly 10 different shows/movies/OVAs that I would consider myself to have ‘watched’ (I guess I count watched as having been upwards of 10 episodes, since Shiki will be on this list, and I haven’t really watched Shiki all the way through).

I will probably just list out each of the ten anime I gave attention to, give a short summary of my thoughts on each, and call it good. Hopefully my opinions invite discussion. However, this probably shouldn’t be considered a ‘top 10′ since I’ve only seen 10 different shows. Instead, it will be what I watched listed from least to greatest, in terms of the measure of enjoyment I got from them. Note that I’m just going off of the list Gene provided in his last post.

Before I really begin, let me just say that, even though this is more of a ‘worst to best’ list than a ‘top 10′ list, I don’t think that any of these shows are actually awful. As I put the list together, I realized just how hard it was placing some of them. Some of the placements I’m still unhappy with, but I feel like placing shows next to each other as ‘equals’ is sort of a cop-out, so the list is the list. I’ll try to keep spoilers out along the way, but no promises!

Here we go!

Birdy: Decode

I thought about letting this wait until after the Thursday showing, where hopefully a handful of you would have gotten a chance to see it (the only reason I already have is because I won’t be here, so I watched a bit with Gene and Chris last night), but I’m leaving campus in a few hours and needed something to do, so I thought opening discussion on this early wouldn’t be too bad. That way, anybody who’s already seen it or has read the original manga or the 1996 OVA could go ahead and talk about it.

However, I should be polite and mention that there is a decent chance of spoilers in this post. Nothing humongous, but I’ll probably discussing some events up to the episode I watched (since last night we watched, what? Five episodes? Six?). They won’t be marked, since this is the only warning.

It feels weird for me to make this post since I wasn’t even at this showing (I had a good excuse, I swear), but since no one else has put anything up I guess I’ll go ahead and assume it’s kosher for now. I wish I had been there; I can’t exactly comment on what was shown, but I’m not exactly a good authority on AMVs. I guess I hope Children of Daicon was shown, though, since that’s one of my recent favorites.

Hey, everyone! It is I, Grant, and this post is happening again. This week we watched Seitokai Yukuindomo (which I believe has also been referred to as Sex Jokes: The Show), Amagami-SS, and The House of Five Leaves. Feel free to discuss them below. Oh hi there. The first show, Seitokai Yukuindomo, was funny. That’s all I can really think to say about it. I doubt I’ll be watching more, but I would be lying if I said it didn’t make me laugh here and there.

Hey, everyone! Same deal as every other week. Post with comments. Last night we saw Requiem for the Phantom, Seikimatsu Occult Academy, and Blue Gender. To start with was Requiem for the Phantom. It’s hard for me to deliver a good opinion on this one. To me, the scenes in this show would randomly oscillate between ‘just bad’ and ‘badass’. The concept is sort of interesting, though the whole ‘evil mad scientist’ thing seems a bit cheesy to me.
