I probably shouldn’t even post this, since I don’t do well at keeping up with new anime. As it turns out, the number of anime I have seen from this year pretty much adds up to exactly 10 different shows/movies/OVAs that I would consider myself to have ‘watched’ (I guess I count watched as having been upwards of 10 episodes, since Shiki will be on this list, and I haven’t really watched Shiki all the way through).

I will probably just list out each of the ten anime I gave attention to, give a short summary of my thoughts on each, and call it good. Hopefully my opinions invite discussion. However, this probably shouldn’t be considered a ‘top 10′ since I’ve only seen 10 different shows. Instead, it will be what I watched listed from least to greatest, in terms of the measure of enjoyment I got from them. Note that I’m just going off of the list Gene provided in his last post.

Before I really begin, let me just say that, even though this is more of a ‘worst to best’ list than a ‘top 10′ list, I don’t think that any of these shows are actually awful. As I put the list together, I realized just how hard it was placing some of them. Some of the placements I’m still unhappy with, but I feel like placing shows next to each other as ‘equals’ is sort of a cop-out, so the list is the list. I’ll try to keep spoilers out along the way, but no promises!

Here we go!

I hope everyone is enjoying the end of school and productivity for a month. I know I loved sleeping for 12 hours the last few days in a big, warm bed in complete silence. For those who were able to go, I hope you enjoyed Birdy the Mighty: Decode-if you have any thoughts on it, be sure to comment on Grant’s Birdy post.

There’s really no coherent topic to this post, other than that it’s all somehow connected to anime. Join me as I ramble about Bill 156, Mushishi (minor-ish spoilers), on anime recently passed, and anime in the near future.

Birdy: Decode

I thought about letting this wait until after the Thursday showing, where hopefully a handful of you would have gotten a chance to see it (the only reason I already have is because I won’t be here, so I watched a bit with Gene and Chris last night), but I’m leaving campus in a few hours and needed something to do, so I thought opening discussion on this early wouldn’t be too bad. That way, anybody who’s already seen it or has read the original manga or the 1996 OVA could go ahead and talk about it.

However, I should be polite and mention that there is a decent chance of spoilers in this post. Nothing humongous, but I’ll probably discussing some events up to the episode I watched (since last night we watched, what? Five episodes? Six?). They won’t be marked, since this is the only warning.

It feels weird for me to make this post since I wasn’t even at this showing (I had a good excuse, I swear), but since no one else has put anything up I guess I’ll go ahead and assume it’s kosher for now. I wish I had been there; I can’t exactly comment on what was shown, but I’m not exactly a good authority on AMVs. I guess I hope Children of Daicon was shown, though, since that’s one of my recent favorites.

EDIT: The post below this one is newer. Read that!

Hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving. Remember the Indians? Yeah, me neither.

Any idea how hard it is to find a Thanksgiving anime picture? Fucking impossible.

Happy Thanksgiving desu~

EDIT: Apparently, this post is so ridiculously awesome, it initially warped time and published a week before I published it. Date manually altered to be more accurate.

Hello! I hope you’re all enjoying Thanksgiving break. And even though the last true showing of the semester is over, this blog will continue to live on and bring you confusing things from Japan. Speaking of confusing things:

Neon Genesis Evangelion. A show any anime fan worth his/her weight in moe has heard of, and one that many have seen. A show that has been the center of thousands of pages of forum discussion and debate. A show that has spawned countless gigabytes of fanart, fanfiction, and doujinshi. A show that is supposedly one of the most influential works in the last 20 years.

A show that has successfully confused a large chunk of its viewers.

Sometime last summer, while apathetically standing in the shower staring at the showerhead, I challenged myself on a whim to create a brief synopsis of the series. And although I had seen the show within the last couple of years, I found the task more daunting than I had anticipated. A group of young teenagers suit up in giant mecha to combat aliens. Was that it? The more I thought about it, the more I realized I wasn’t really sure. One of the most well known anime in existence, and all I knew about it was that there were some kids trying to fight aliens in giant mecha, and Shinji was a pussy. It bothered me enough that I actually went back and watched the whole series over again, trying to pay attention to the background and history behind everything. While I still can’t really claim I understand everything, I hopefully have a functional knowledge which I will now try to express in text. The background, the lore, the people, and the politics of NGE.

Do I really need to say there will be spoilers? If you haven’t seen NGE, and would like to, you may pretend this post doesn’t exist and keep yelling at me to post something new. On the other hand, if you haven’t seen this, and are too lazy to, and still want to sound smart in internet debates (lolwut), feel free to read ahead and spoil yourself senseless.

Also, long post is loooong. Get yourself some pocky and find a comfy seat.

Hello, everyone. It’s been a while. It was all because of EPICS presentation and physics test that I couldn’t post. So, this time it’s Yukino Satsuki-san. (And I gave up trying to come up with a good title, cause I can’t do it.) Who is she? She although it was a very short line, she played Hoshimaru from Naru Taru. Wait, wasn’t it, like, 2 weeks ago? Yeah, I tried, but then EPICS and physics came, like I mentioned.

Hey, everyone! It is I, Grant, and this post is happening again. This week we watched Seitokai Yukuindomo (which I believe has also been referred to as Sex Jokes: The Show), Amagami-SS, and The House of Five Leaves. Feel free to discuss them below. Oh hi there. The first show, Seitokai Yukuindomo, was funny. That’s all I can really think to say about it. I doubt I’ll be watching more, but I would be lying if I said it didn’t make me laugh here and there.

Hey, everyone! Same deal as every other week. Post with comments. Last night we saw Requiem for the Phantom, Seikimatsu Occult Academy, and Blue Gender. To start with was Requiem for the Phantom. It’s hard for me to deliver a good opinion on this one. To me, the scenes in this show would randomly oscillate between ‘just bad’ and ‘badass’. The concept is sort of interesting, though the whole ‘evil mad scientist’ thing seems a bit cheesy to me.

I was originally gonna post about anime I didn’t like, but then this whole week happened, and now I’m in a good mood.
