Last day of the year? Sounds like a fine time for the club president to write up a Top 10 list for anime!

Luckily for me I only watched about 15 shows this year, which made putting together the list pretty easy. I’m also limiting listees to shows that finished in 2012, which means I’ll have an “Honorable Mentions”/”Continuing” list at the end of this post.

Our usual review-writer was occupied with horrendous work hours conflicting with club showings, and I got buried under a pile of projects which wrecked my plans to write the reviews myself. To make up for lost time, this post is going to be divided into two parts: a long list of shows that weren’t particularly noteworthy, and a shorter list at the end of gems from this semester’s showings.

School happens sometimes. Unfortunately for us living the real world, it’s never nearly as interesting as it is in anime. Aliens? Drama? Saving the world? Nope, we get homework, homework, and more homework. It’s nice to escape that once in a while. It’s not like we have a weekly occurring event where we have to get through a predetermined amount of anime, and then provide some sort of writeup about it. That would be terrible.

Starting this past Wednesday, I’ll be playing a doujin game each week and putting up a review for it on the blog. By the nature of such things, the vast majority of them will be Touhou-based; fortunately, Japanese Touhou Doujin Games are of suprisingly high quality on the whole and should prove to be plenty fun/entertaining. First up this week:

Hopefully everyone reading this blog is at least familiar with the Touhou series. Working under that assumption, I won’t bother with a rundown of the basic gameplay. This, instead, will be a summary of the main mechanic and my first impressions of each game, starting with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and going through to Ten Desires. Well, technically they’ll be second impressions since I’m writing this after my first playthrough of each, but it’s close enough.

Now I’d tell you to hop on the tour bus, but as we all know, there are no buses in Gensokyo.

I’d warn for spoilers as well, but I never paid enough attention to the plot to know what was going on myself.   ᄀ( ̄ー ̄)ᒥ

Our usual poster, Grant, had to walk out early and miss most of the showing. I bravely and valiantly volunteered to take on this most sacred of duties and ramble about what we watched for a couple hundred words.

This was also our last week in Alderson, so hurray! We’ll have nice seats again! On the other hand, we’re starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel for shows to watch. Hopefully Gene has some good stuff planned for us in the upcoming weeks (OreImo and Eden of the East at least ought to be good).

Yeah, I’m late with this. If you read my comment on the back-to-school post, you’d know that I blame the Guild Wars holiday event offering ridiculous rewards on a certain quest. Fortunately, said event is over and I’ve reached mostly endgame content, which bores the shit out of me generally, so less time on that and more time on anime. And this post. And/or other posts. And/or me procrastinating in spite of that. Or maybe that whole school thing.
